Um

Ok, so the gluten challenge has been had and the results are in.

And while they're still fairly grey and a little inconclusive, they're a dark enough colour of grey (man, that's a bad metaphorical attempt to say they're leaning towards one thing rather than being completely neutral) that the specialist thinks that I don't have Celiac disease.

I'm kind of a little bit "huh?" in a happy sort of cautious way and know that I still have to keep an eye on things and watch what I eat and etc. etc. but all in all I'm relieved. It's so much easier to be able to eat a low gluten diet and watch what I eat rather than have to eat gluten-free and be so restricted. I can eat out. I can eat at friends' houses. I can eat! Yay! It's a huge weight off my shoulders.

But, speaking of weight, now I have to deal with the weight I put on while going whole hog gluten crazy.

Le sigh.

Worth it though.

Definitely a good thing to not be restricted to a gluten free diet - makes socializing much easier.

Donuts Homer? I mean, Dominic ;)

I don't even know what gluten is.

Sorry... Just stumbled by this blog and figured I'd leave that little gem of insight...

Awesome! :)

gluten has something to do with flour right? i don't think i'd do good on that diet...

Victoria said...

Yep, it has something to do with flour. Also beer. Not a diet I'd choose to follow ;)

I'm on "recovering alcoholic/drug addict" status so the beer part wouldn't bug me... but I guess i'd have to stop eating my daily bag of dry flour mixed with water... which would suck 'cause it's always the highlight of my day.

Victoria said...

I can see how that would suck, that must be a tasty tasty combo.

*backs away slowly*

*sigh*....

See how my life is? My every social interaction, real or online, results in someone *backing away slowly*...

I thought it might be my odor, but now I don't know what to think!

Victoria said...

I think the flour/water mix may be increasing the odor?

I'll consult with my physician on that.

So, is it "Advice From a Single Girl" as in, advice from "one" girl or "Advice From a Single Girl" as in "advice from a girl who is not attached to a romantic relationship of any sort"?

Victoria said...

Both, at the moment.

Will change the name of the blog when you find you a hunk of man?

Perhaps.

Our eldest is Coeliac - it doesn't mean you *cant* eat stuff - just that your food will be more expensive :)

Restaurants are a problem though...

Victoria said...

Restaurants are and eating at someone else's house is too :)

First of all - yay for you!!!

While I don't miss beer - it was never my poison of choice - I do miss the freedom to eat where and when I want. When I was vegan it was hard, but not like this. For example I'm going to be taking the train south this weekend - what can I eat on my 8 hour + train ride that I can purchase because we know those lovely folks at the border aren't going to let me bat my eyelashes and sneak fresh fruit and veggies etc...

Oh well I will survive - live another day without gluten and I will also remember why I do as I found out when I ate at local upscalish chain restaurant - their burgers apparently have filler that the waitress didn't seem to know about or care enough to really make wasn't in there when I asked for her check...

Victoria:

Thanks for referring me to the post explaining (somewhat) about the possibility of changing the title of your blog. All has been made clear.

Thanks SandP, I'll join you in the "yay" for me :)
I, honestly, didn't miss beer either, but the lack of freedom was a big downer. Sucks with travelling too. Are there any packaged goods you'll be able to take with you? It's really frustrating though when the servers say they'll check and don't or when the chefs don't know just how many things have gluten in them and so they say something's ok when it's not. That sucks. But, yes, you'll survive :)

You're welcome Charles. I'm glad all has been made clear to you. It's still a bit fuzzy for me ;)

We're going to try and sneak some stuff across the border - the problem is I also can't have dairy or soy - oh well, I will just keep learning how to adapt.

That is tough. Good luck!
