*sighs dejectedly* Ok.

Awww well if you don't want to cheer for Germany that's okay - I understand. How about the Netherlands? Is that a better option?

Could do I suppose. *sighs dejectedly*

One of my best friends is Dutch SnP, so. . . *sigh* It's probably my best bet now. (said in Eeyore voice)

There was an entire segment on NPR's "talk of the nation" program the other day devoted to your dilemma. One person recommended just cheering for the teams that are nearest to you....

Seems kinda stupid...

But then again, soccer seems a little stupid to me....

Then again...all professional sports seem stupid to me...

That is all.

England's been out for a while, too.

Thanks for noticing (also in Eeyore voice :)

You could take the same approach I did and ignore the world cup completely. Unlike the outcome of, say, a war, it makes no real difference to anything who wins a football game.

What now? What now?

How about a coffee shop, and a sticky bun, and a good book?

How about an hour of people watching, and writing blunt character assassinations in a moleskine ? :)

I'm going to buy me a globe now Charles to do some measuring of who's closest I guess.

Nah,Dominic, no fun ignoring it completely.

Oh, I'll do those kind of things too Jonathan, it's just I need someone to cheer for.

I think I'll go find out which team is best looking and will cheer for them. That might work.

I'd suggest Spain. They play the best football of the remaining lot AND will most likely qualify for your support on the looks criteria as well.

In any case, there's definitely at least one excellent semi and very likely a very good final ahead. Enjoy!

Hmmm, I could do Spain. They have Torres, who plays for Liverpool who are my team and have been forevers so. . . I suppose. *sigh*
